Railway commuters traveling through Bihar experienced major disruptions on Saturday morning after a sudden Overhead Equipment (OHE) insulator failure paralyzed train movements along the busy Muzaffarpur-Narkatiyaganj railway section. The technical snag, which occurred near Pipra railway station in the East Champaran district, cut off power to the overhead traction wires entirely at approximately 9:50 AM. The unexpected outage instantly brought mainline rail operations to a standstill, leaving passengers and railway administrators stranded as technical teams scrambled to restore power across the affected corridor.
Samastipur DRM’s Saloon and Premium Express Trains Stranded on Tracks
The sudden power failure caused widespread gridlock, trapping several key passenger and express services on both the up and down lines. Among the stranded traffic was the special inspection saloon carrying Samastipur Division Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Jyoti Prakash Mishra, who was conducting a window inspection from Muzaffarpur toward Bapudham Motihari and had to halt unexpectedly at Pipra station. Simultaneously, the premier 12558 Anand Vihar-Muzaffarpur Saptkranti Superfast Express got stuck on the outer tracks between Chakia and Pipra, while the 63311 Muzaffarpur-Narkatiyaganj MEMU passenger train remained frozen on the main line at Mahwal station, causing immense confusion and inconvenience for daily commuters and long-distance travelers alike.
Rapid Repair Work Restores Normalcy After 90 Minutes
Upon receiving distress alerts regarding the OHE failure, the technical electrical maintenance team from the Railways rushed to the site and initiated emergency repair protocols on a war footing. Working tirelessly to replace the damaged insulator and re-energize the overhead cables, engineers successfully rectified the technical fault after roughly one and a half hours. Power supply along the section was fully restored at 11:15 AM, allowing the stranded Saptkranti Express, the DRM special train, and local MEMU services to resume their journeys and bringing relief to hundreds of inconvenienced passengers.
