Suspense Crime, Digital Desk : The daughter-in-law flees with a check of 21 lakhs, Shraddha pending The Indian Air Force pilot Shubham Kumar, martyred in a plane crash in Jorhat, Assam on June 13th, is being mourned in Jehanabad, Bihar, by his family, and his wife Shreya Rai has flown away with a check of 21 lakhs in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, with the Shraddha ceremony yet to be performed. On June 13th, at Jehanabad in Bihar, after Indian Air Force pilot Shubham Kumar, who lost his life in an AN-32 crash in Jorhat, Assam, the parents were devastated and mourned their son's demise. Following the cremation in Gayaji, Shubham's wife, Shreya Rai, accompanied by a check of 21 lakhs, arrived in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh.
From Gayaji on June 14th, when the martyr Shubham Kumar's funeral was being held, his wife Shreya Rai also witnessed her husband's farewell, wearing a mask.
From Gayaji, Shubham's family members were back in Jehanabad, while Shreya returned to Azamgarh along with her brother and father, bearing the compensation check. Shubham's ex-gratia check was received by Shreya, as his legal wife, on the proposal of the Sainik Welfare Board. It has been reported that Shreya is also a lieutenant in the army. Meanwhile, Shubham's Shraddha (last rites) are scheduled to take place on June 25th.
Hearing that Shreya had gone to Azamgarh with the cheque after collecting it from the officials of the local administration, Shubham's father Amarendra Sharma reacted with sorrow that not even the concerned officials informed him about this.
He lamented, 'If they had married in court, Shreya should have come to their house and handed over the check to their daughter-in-law while attending the Shraddha (shraadh) of her husband,' he said, adding that originally his son's wedding was scheduled in December 2025 but due to his wife's mother's demise, preparations were delayed and then the tragic incident happened. Shouting at his injustice, Sharma said, 'Amarendra Sharma, who made his son, Shubham, an Air Force pilot through hard work and struggle, has nothing left after the death of his son Shubham. A house is being built by taking a home loan.
The family had taken a home loan after the marriage which is still not complete, the ability to complete it was with Shubham.' Meanwhile, Shubham's family members said that he was in a relationship with Shreya, however, they were not aware that Shubham and Shreya had been married in court. On November 5th, all the rituals of the wedding of his son Shubham, a pilot of the Indian Air Force, scheduled for November 5th, were being performed when the son met such a terrible accident.
His parents said that he had spoken about a love marriage to a girl named Shreya while discussing wedding arrangements, and that discussions were also held between the two families regarding the engagement and their marriage was finalized in 2025.
His father said that after his death, it came to light that they had married each other in a court marriage. Shreya had also come to their ancestral village Banwaria in Hulasganj after Shubham's death. After the funeral in Vishnupad, Gaya, Shreya returned to Azamgarh. However, till now Shreya has not issued any statement regarding this.
However, according to media reports, Shreya may come to this village soon to clarify this matter.
It is believed that he will soon explain the dispute. Officer present at the wedding, the CO (Circle Officer) of Hulasganj Sadab Alam gave the check to Shreya by declaring the family her to be legal wife according to the service book. Shubham's parents also say that they live in poverty.
Their son's death has plunged the entire family into trouble, so they are appealing to the government and the Defense Minister to deliver justice to the martyr's parents. We believe that if Shubham was married to Shreya, she has all rights to this check but she must perform all the wifely duties. What happened was that on June 13th, an Air Force AN-32 aircraft crashed shortly of the runway after landing in Jorhat, Assam.
Shubham's co-pilot Squadron Leader Prashant Singh, flight engineer Sergeant Jitendra Sharma, aerial gunner Agniveer Khemaram Kumawat, and a bombardier were also martyred in the incident.
After takeoff from Jorhat at 10 AM on June 13th, the pilot soon sought permission to land due to an issue. However, while landing, the plane went off the runway and crashed.
