Major Relief for Patients in Bihar: CT Scan and MRI Tests at Patna’s PMCH to Cost Less Than AIIMS
In a massive financial relief initiative for underprivileged patients, Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) has announced that diagnostic services, including CT scans and MRI tests, will now be significantly cheaper at PMCH than at AIIMS Patna. Authorized by the Patient Welfare Committee, this new pricing structure will be implemented through the advanced diagnostic machines installed in the hospital's newly built emergency department. Set to officially roll out around Independence Day, this move is poised to ease the crushing out-of-pocket medical expenses for thousands of economically weaker patients visiting Bihar’s premier healthcare institution.
Substantial Price Cuts on 71 Types of CT Scan Tests
According to the newly approved rate list, the expanded catalog covers 71 distinct types of CT scan procedures. PMCH Superintendent Dr. Rajiv Kumar Singh highlighted that the Patient Welfare Committee has sanctioned a flat 25 percent discount on standard rates, making high-end diagnostics drastically more accessible. For instance, a non-contrast CT head scan, which previously cost ₹600, will now be available for just ₹450 after the discount. Similarly, specialized procedures have seen major price drops:
NCCT Paranasal Sinus: Reduced from ₹1,300 to ₹975.
CT Angiography (Upper limb, abdomen, pulmonary): Reduced from ₹2,300 to ₹1,725.
CECT Knee, Shoulder, Wrist, and Elbow: Reduced from ₹2,150 to ₹1,612.50.
CT-Guided Procedures (FNAC, biopsy, catheter drainage): Reduced from ₹1,100 to ₹825.
Significant 25 Percent Discount on Routine and Complex MRI Scans
The comprehensive two-page MRI rate list reflects a similar downward revision across routine scans and specialized organ protocols. Routine MRI tests, which typically stood at ₹3,500, will now cost ₹2,625 after the 25 percent concession. This slashed pricing applies to vital imaging diagnostics such as MRI cervical and lumbosacral spine planes, ankle planes, and various abdominal and pelvic scans. Furthermore:
Contrast-Enhanced MRI Scans: Specialized protocols for brain tumors, pituitary evaluations, and cranial nerve scans have dropped from ₹5,500 to ₹4,125.
Complex Combined MRIs: High-end combined diagnostic tests priced originally at ₹8,000 will now cost ₹6,000, while other complex tests valued at ₹7,000 and ₹6,500 have been re-priced to ₹5,250 and ₹4,875, respectively.
A Lifeline for Cancer, Trauma, and Neurology Patients
For patients battling severe medical conditions such as cancer, neurological disorders, traumatic injuries from accidents, or those requiring complex surgical interventions, frequent imaging diagnostics represent a massive financial burden. By pricing these crucial tests lower than AIIMS Patna, PMCH is set to alleviate profound economic stress for working-class families and rural patients traveling from across Bihar, ensuring that lack of funds never becomes a barrier to receiving accurate, timely medical diagnoses.
