Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Patna, India – A political storm is brewing in Bihar after the Election Commission of India (ECI) ordered a "special revision" of the state's electoral rolls. The move has drawn fierce condemnation from opposition parties, who are alleging a "deep-rooted conspiracy" to disenfranchise lakhs of voters ahead of the crucial 2025 Assembly elections.

The opposition, led by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), has accused the ECI of acting under the influence of the ruling BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). They claim the special drive is a deliberate attempt to strategically delete the names of voters who traditionally support the opposition's Mahagathbandhan alliance.

"This is not a routine process; it is a conspiracy to deprive lakhs of genuine electors of their right to vote," an opposition leader stated. They have questioned the timing and necessity of a "special" revision when a summary revision of voter lists is an annual exercise.

The ECI, on its part, maintains that the special drive is a necessary procedural step aimed at the "purification and updating" of the electoral rolls. The official goal is to ensure the integrity of the voter list by removing duplicate entries, names of deceased voters, and those who have permanently shifted their residence. This, the commission argues, is essential for conducting free and fair elections.

However, the opposition is not convinced. They see this as a targeted campaign to manipulate the voter base in a state where elections are often won by thin margins. They have vowed to oppose the move and have called on their party workers to be vigilant to prevent the wrongful deletion of names.

This controversy has set the stage for a major political flashpoint in Bihar. The battle is no longer just about winning votes but about who gets to cast them, putting the impartiality of the electoral process at the center of a heated political debate nearly a year before the state goes to the polls.
