Bihar Education Minister Chandra Shekhar’s tone has changed after the controversial statement on Ramcharitmanas. He clarified his comments and described the statements as steps taken to save God. Chandrashekhar Yadav said, “God was also angry with the caste system. He gave a message by eating false plums of Shabari, but today Shabari’s son is prevented from going to the temple. The President and the Chief Minister are also stopped. It is washed with Ganga water.
“Lord Ram came in his dream and said ‘Look, Chandrasekhar, these people have sold us in the market’. Save us from being sold. That’s why we sometimes talk like this. Give Lord Ram the country he wanted.”
Controversial remarks made on Ramcharitmanas
Earlier, Bihar Education Minister Chandrashekhar had triggered a fresh controversy by claiming that ancient texts like Ramcharitmanas contain so many harmful ingredients that they can be compared to potassium cyanide. A video of the RJD leader went viral on social media. “This is not just my view, but also the great writer of Hindi Nagarjuna and socialist thinker Ram Manohar Lohia have said that there are many regressive ideas in Ramcharitmanas,” the minister had said in the statement.
Similar comments by the minister had triggered a controversy earlier this year as well. “There are many great things in the scriptures, but if 55 dishes are served by sprinkling potassium cyanide at a feast, the food is no longer worth eating.
However, after his statement, Chandrashekhar faced criticism from ally JDU and opposition BJP, while his own party tried to distance itself from his comments.
