The comments posted by a Congress spokesperson, Shama Mohamed, regarding the captains fitness have drawn sharp criticism from BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia who has called them ‘unfortunate’ Saikia goes ahead further saying, “bizarre” and “demoralising statements”. She goes on to say, how does an overweight sportsman qualify to be called captain of the team.
Shama Mohamed famously called Sharma “overweight,” and “the most unimpressive captain to have hung the boots” as he tweeted.
Noting how do people working in such positions have the audacity to make such statements, Saikia reveals, “Our Indian Team is working towards its best and ensuring the results are out there for people to see and admire rather than pull them down.” Mohamed went ahead on the platform X to make even worse,stronger remarks claiming, “Fat people even having the slightest body of muscle don’t perform.”
