Dhaka: Indian Visa Application Centers in major cities of Bangladesh have started offering limited application slots for Bangladeshi citizens requiring urgent medical and student visas. These services are being provided in Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet and Khulna. The Indian Visa Application Center (IVAC) in Bangladesh has issued a statement giving this information.

What did IVAC say?

The Indian Visa Application Centre (IVAC) in Bangladesh said in a statement, “Further, these five centers have also opened limited application slots for urgent cases where Bangladeshi students and workers need to travel to a third country and for which they have already booked visas with foreign embassies in India.” “These services will remain limited until IVAC resumes its normal operations,” the statement added.

What happened in Bangladesh?

Bangladesh witnessed massive protests by students against the controversial reservation system in government jobs. The protests began in mid-July and eventually led to the ouster of the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government from power on August 5. More than 600 people have been killed due to the protests since mid-July. Currently, an interim government led by 84-year-old Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus is running the country.
