Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Nationwide protests have broken out across Bangladesh following the horrific gang-rape of a Hindu woman in the Cumilla district. The incident has ignited widespread fury, with thousands taking to the streets to demand justice and greater protection for the country's religious minorities.
The assault reportedly occurred last week, and in response to the public outcry, Bangladesh's elite police unit, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), has arrested five men in connection with the crime. Despite the swift arrests, activists and community leaders argue that this is a symptom of a much larger problem of systemic violence against minorities.
Major demonstrations have been organized in the capital city of Dhaka, where protestors converged on the iconic Shahbagh Square. Led by groups such as the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad and the Bangladesh National Hindu Mahajot, demonstrators have blocked roads and chanted slogans, demanding swift and severe punishment for the perpetrators.

The protests, however, go beyond this single case. Activists are demanding systemic change, including the enactment of a dedicated "Hindu Protection Law" and the establishment of a Minority Protection Commission. They argue that such measures are essential to combat the rising tide of religiously motivated violence and discrimination that leaves minority communities feeling vulnerable.
The incident in Cumilla has become a flashpoint for Bangladesh's Hindu community and its allies, highlighting deep-seated fears and a growing frustration over the safety and security of religious minorities in the country. The scale of the protests signals a powerful public demand for accountability and concrete government action to protect all its citizens.
