The statement of 32 accused, including BJP leaders Lal Krishna Advani, Murali Manohar Joshi, Kalyan Singh, Uma Bharti, will be recorded in the special CBI court today. Significantly, on 6 December 1992, the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya was demolished by a rampaging mob. The report of this case was filed on 6 December 1992 by the then police station in-charge of Ramjanma Bhoomi police station, Priyambada Nath Shukla, and outpost in-charge Ganga Prasad Tiwari. Later the investigation of the case was handed over to the CBI, which had filed a charge sheet against a total of 49 accused, out of which trial is going on against 32 including LK Advani, Uma Bharti, Kalyan Singh, Murlimohar Joshi, Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, Champat Rai. While 17 accused including Bala Saheb Thackeray, Ashok Singhal, Giriraj Kishore, Vishnu Hari Dalmia have died. The Supreme Court has ordered the Special Court in this matter to give its decision by 31 August.
