When Apple revealed its AI enhancements in June 2024, AI-powered features for Siri gained the most attention. Apple had assured customers of a smarter Siri being deployed soon. However, the company has now claimed that the launch has been postponed.
“We’ve also been working on a more personalized Siri, giving it more awareness of your personal context, as well as the ability Which in combination with existing circumstances means we need to take longer than we thought to deliver on them. However, we aim to provide the new functionalities within the upcoming year,” Apple stated.
Apple did highlight that “in just the past six months, we’ve made Siri more conversational, introduced new features like type to Siri and product knowledge, and added an integration with ChatGPT.” Despite such news, a smarter version of Siri is not expected any time soon.
With the exception of the latter, all other Apple Intelligence features have already been, or will be implemented by April.
What features will be powered by AI for Siri?
Apple stated that one of the advancements in Siri would be having context-awareness which would help users sift through their notes, texts, and emails without breaching their privacy. Apple is also doing research on-screen awareness, which enables the assistant to interact directly with the content provided. For instance, when you receive a message from a friend containing their new address, all you need to do is say, “Add this to their contact card,” and it will be done.
In addition, Siri will enable users to perform in-app actions which makes multitasking effortless. From sending out drafted emails to editing photos and saving them in Notes, Apple stated that Siri will perform all these tasks hands-free.
