Mumbai: Veteran lyricist Anwar Sagar died at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital here on Wednesday afternoon. He was 70 years old. Unconfirmed reports state that he was suffering from age-related ailments. Condoling the death of Sagar, the Indian Performing Rights Society Limited (IPRS) tweeted on Wednesday, “Veteran lyricist and member of IPRS Anwar Sagar is no more. Sagar, known for hit songs like ‘Vaada Raha Sanam’, Vijaypath and also wrote songs for films like Yarana. Our soul and prayers are with his family in this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace. “
Anwar Sagar wrote songs for many films in the 80s and 90s. His hit songs include ‘Vaada Raha Sanam’ from Abbas-Mustan’s 1992 Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Khiladi’ and ‘Ye Dua Hai Mere Rab Se’ from the 1992 film ‘Sapna Saajan Ke’. He also wrote the title song of the Divya Bharti starrer film ‘Dil Ka Kya Kasoor’ released in 1992.
He wrote the lyrics for the 1994 Ajay Devgan-Tabu starrer ‘Vijaypath’ and David Dhawan’s 1995 release ‘Yarana’, starring Rishi Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit and Raj Babbar in the lead roles.
