Actress Ranya Rao : As per the court’s order for further investigation, recently arrested Kannada actor Ranya Rao has been sent to Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) custody for three days.

Justice Vishwanath C. Gowdar of the Economic Offenses Court issued the order, which ANI reported on.

She earlier today admitted to the offense and informed the DRI that she possessed 17 pieces of gold bars. She further claimed that she not only traveled to Dubai, but to Europe, America, and the Middle East as well.

Rao was arrested on March 5 for allegedly bringing over 14 kg of gold from Dubai.

The daughter of Karnataka DGP (Police Housing Corporation) Ramachandra Rao and an actress previously known for her roles in ‘Maanikya’ and ‘Pataki’ was arrested at Kempegowda International Airport (KIAD) in Bengaluru.

Further searches at her Lavelle Road residence uncovered gold ornaments valued at an additional Rs 2.1 crore as well as Rs 2.7 crore in cash.

In June 2023, India TV reported that in her first formal statement to the DRI, Ranya Rao claimed to have visited Dubai, Saudi Arabia, and the Middle East along with Europe and America.

Ranya has further confessed that the officials seized 17 gold bars from her. During the interrogation, Ranya Rao stated, “I do concede that 17 pieces of gold bars were extracted from me. Kindly do your best to keep the case as confidential as possible.”
