In politics, words like "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas" (Together with all, Development for all) are often used to define governance. However, a recent incident in Rajasthan has people questioning if these slogans always translate to action on the ground.

A video has gone viral across social media platforms, showing former BJP MP Sukhbir Singh Jaunapuria allegedly refusing to give blankets to Muslim women during a distribution drive. The incident took place in Kareda Buzurg village in Rajasthan’s Niwai constituency, where Jaunapuria had gone to invite people for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming rally in Ajmer.

What Actually Happened? In the footage, Jaunapuria is seen handing out blankets to a row of elderly women. When he reaches a group of Muslim women, the tone shifts. He is heard asking, "What is your name? Move aside, move away immediately. Don't give it to them."

When questioned by bystanders, his response was blunt: "Those who abuse Modi have no right to take these. If anyone feels bad, let them." He then instructed his team to separate the Muslim women from the rest of the beneficiaries. Reports suggest that as he left the venue, he brushed off further questions from local residents who pointed out that the government doesn't discriminate, so he shouldn't either.

Who is Sukhbir Singh Jaunapuria? Jaunapuria is no small name in Indian politics or business. A real estate tycoon with assets declared at over ₹142 crore during the 2024 elections, he served as the MP for Tonk-Sawai Madhopur from 2014 to 2024. Interestingly, in 2014, he rose to fame by defeating legendary cricketer Mohammed Azharuddin. He also has deep political roots in Haryana, having served as an MLA from Sohna before moving his base to Rajasthan.

The Irony of Social Media The incident has been labeled as "ironic" by many, mainly because Jaunapuria’s own social media profiles are filled with "Sabka Vikas" messaging. His Facebook cover features him with PM Modi under that very slogan. He even has a pinned post from 2023 where he shared photos of Muslim women tying Rakhi on him a post he claimed made the Prime Minister very happy at the time.

The Fallout The video has sparked a firestorm of criticism, with many calling it "small-minded" and a direct contradiction of the inclusive image the BJP tries to project. While the former MP has yet to issue an official clarification, the clip continues to trend, raising difficult questions about religious bias in public service.

Whether this was a momentary lapse in judgment or a reflection of deeper sentiments, the "Blanket Controversy" has certainly put Jaunapuria in a spot where even a billionaire's wealth can't easily buy back a tarnished reputation.
