Ramadan, which is also referred to as Ramzan or Ramazan, is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. People consider this month of Ramadan as the most important one of the year and it is marked with fasting to show devotion and receive blessings from God.
People observe fasts during the holy month of Ramadan from dawn till dusk for a duration of 30 days without drinking water. This is termed as Roza. Meals are taken before dawn and after sunset. The meal taken before dawn is called Suhoor and the one taken after sunset is Iftar. Ramadan is wrapped up with Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations where the crescent moon is sighted the day before the festivities.
When is Ramadan 2025?
The observance of the crescent moon marks the holy month of Ramadan, which is very significant. The International Astronomical Centre in Abu Dhabi has indicated that the crescent moon was sighted on the 28th of February 2025 which means the holy month Ramadan will commence on 1st March 2025.
Inhabitants of Abu Dhabi, Dubai and other emirates of UAE will perform the taraweeh prayers on the night of 28th February 2025 after the crescent moon is sighted.
This will have fasting starting the next day for example, from March 1st, 2025. However, in case the crescent moon is observed a day after, that is March 1st, 2025, the start of Ramadan will be adjusted to March 2nd, 2025. Fasters in Ramadan will be required to begin fasting for close to 13 hours during the early parts of Ramadan and approximately 13 hours and 45 minutes during the later highlights toward the end of the month.
