The ICC Elite Panel of Umpires' lone Indian member Nitin Menon chose against participating in the upcoming Champions Trophy which starts on February 19 because of personal situation. According to reports Menon had a spot on the list of 12 umpires together with three match referees announced by the governing body on Wednesday February 5 before deciding to step aside.

A person with BCCI information revealed the motive that led Menon to make his decision. According to him the 41-year-old cricket official declined travelling to Pakistan for the tournament which led to his tournament removal.

Menon stood to receive assignment from the ICC for representation on the Champions Trophy squad. The BCCI source confirmed Menon chose not to visit Pakistan for individual personal reasons.

During this period Menon would have received an exclusion from the Dubai matches of the tournament. Since India will participate in every game at Dubai ICC required neutral umpiring thus Menon made the decision to decline the position. ICC representatives observed this situation yet declined making any formal statements regarding it.

The Champions Trophy received its official match officials and referees from ICC who had strong championship experience. The Champions Trophy received its match officials from Richard Kettleborough along with Richard Illingworth yet they were joined by more experienced officials like Kumar Dharamsena and Michael Gough and Chris Gaffney and Paul Reiffel.

Match referees David Boon and Ranjan Madugalle together with Andrew Pycroft received appointment for Champions Trophy matches. The competitive tournament will be without Javagal Srinath representing India.

The tournament includes 12 officials who work as umpires named Kumar Dharmasena, Chris Gaffaney, Michael Gough, Adrian Holdstock, Richard Illingworth, Richard Kettleborough, Ahsan Raza, Paul Reiffel, Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, Rodney Tucker, Alex Wharf, Joel Wilson.
