Liverpool football club's Arne Slot slammed the officials for not sending off Bergvall and allowing him to kick Liverpool out of the first leg of the League Cup semi finals. He was particularly furious at the sliding tackle Bergvall made on Kostas Tsimikas and stood in position to pick up a second yellow, but the referee Billy Strutton decided otherwise in order to prevent the game from turning into a free kick affair. After Bergvall had kicked out Tsimikas, Liverpool lost the ball and this provided bursts of space for Tottenham to deliver a strike in the 86th minute.

Teen Lucas Bergvall was successful in delivering his first goal for the team after successfully converting the pass from Dominic Solanke,

Reflecting on the decision, Slot said, 'It was very upsetting to bear witness to the decisions the officials made, because it heavily impacted the way the entire match progressed. The fourth official and the referee made it clear that the Willett wasn't given a second yellow because he held up the attack.'

“I am tremendously proud of the team as we faced a huge hurdle again. We had a solid start but then lost Rodrigo, and the way it occurred was quite disturbing, he had to go off in that fashion. We had to regroup,” he explained. Postecoglou’s assertion from earlier on in this season, that every time he switches to coaching in a new club he has won a cup before, has been met with disdain by many as Celtic’s dominance was on the down low. However, he believes strongly in Tottenham’s forward progress in the attempt of gifting the club their first trophy after the long wait of them after winning the League Cup in 2008. “Everyone will continue to ridicule me over it, but there will be proof” he remarked. “We have not done anything yet, that’s the only thing, just the sense of getting a result in a high-pressure situation in top of the table clash with the team that is arguably the best in the world right now.” Lastly, on the injury Bentancur sustained in the first half that kept the player being treated for a total of nine minutes which included him wearing an oxygen mask on the pitch, Postecoglou remarked: “As far as I know, he was lucid when he arrived at the dressing room.

"Based on what was presented to me, it appears that the player suffered from a head impact and I was always worried from it. But as far as I'm aware, he should be alright".

It appears that the appointment of Slot has not actually worsened the team in terms of performance as in the 24 matches since his memtorship they have suffered only 2 losses in total.

During Sundays 2-2 draw with Manchester United the Premier league leaders failed to achieve a win yet again, marking this their second consecutive match without a win.

After January’s 6-3 victory against Liverpool, the team will now have a chance to overturn the result due to the second leg being played at Anfield, and according to slot, this should not be overly worrying.

"I still believe the result is not ideal, but if you were to lose a match in a tie with leg, it would be best to do so.”

“We're not going to do every match with scores of 6-3 so you should have expected Tottenham to have a reaction.”
