The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced a new travel policy, which will be enforced for the first time in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. As per the updated rules, the families of Indian cricketers will not be permitted to accompany them during the tournament.
India is set to play its first match against Bangladesh on February 20 in Dubai, followed by a much-anticipated clash against Pakistan on February 23. The final group stage match will be against New Zealand on March 2. Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, the team will play all their matches in Dubai, while the rest of the tournament will be hosted across three cities in Pakistan starting from February 19.
BCCI Enforces Strict Rules
Media reports confirm that BCCI is firm on its Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). A formal document outlining the travel policy, practice sessions, baggage allowance, and family-related rules has been shared with all players. During the third ODI in Ahmedabad, players were explicitly reminded that no exceptions would be made regarding disciplinary regulations.
A source quoted in a report stated, "There is no scope for relaxation in this matter. The BCCI has made it clear that the SOPs must be followed without any compromise."
Family Restrictions in Champions Trophy
A document circulated among Indian cricket personnel states that a player's family is permitted to stay with them for two weeks on a tour lasting 45 days or more. However, as the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 lasts only 20 days, players' families, including high-profile spouses such as Anushka Sharma and Ritika Sajdeh, will not be allowed to travel to Dubai.
Senior Player's Request Denied
According to a PTI report, a senior Indian player attempted to request an exemption to have his family accompany him for the tournament. However, the BCCI refused his plea, reaffirming its stance on self-funded travel for family members.
The BCCI source clarified, “Unless there is a change in policy, players will not be accompanied by their families. If a player wishes to bring their family along, they must cover all expenses independently. The BCCI will not bear any costs for this.”
