Russia has banned 500 people from entering its country, including former US President Barack Obama and comedian Stephen Colbert. This information has been given in a statement issued by Russia. Earlier, the US had denied visas to the media traveling to the United Nations along with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. It is worth noting that recently the meeting of G7 countries is going on and America has also announced to increase strict sanctions against Russia during this period.
Russia announced the list of banned people
In response to the US sanctions, Russia announced it was barring 500 Americans from entering the country, including former President Barack Obama and comedian Stephen Colbert. The list released by the Ministry of External Affairs does not mention complaints against each individual.
Russia gave this reason
The ministry said it also rejected a US request for consular access for Ivan Gershkovich, a journalist. Ivan was arrested in late March on charges of espionage. The decision was taken in response to the US denying visas to Russian journalists who wanted to cover Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s visit to the United Nations last month, the ministry said in a statement.
