Tahawwur’s pending allegations will land him in Tihar Jawal by 12PM today after being brought to India via exclusive flight bearing him from the US. Post his arrival, he will most likely be detained in the famed Tihar Jail situated in Delhi.
The 64–year–old, who holds Canadian citizenship but hails from Pakistan has spent the past few years in a metropolitan detention facility in LA.
Rana has been brought to the country after the latest attempts to avoid extradition were rendered useless. Scrutiny from US supreme court justices led to the rejection of Rana's judicial review. Rana is allegedly tied with the cornerstone conspirator of the 26/11 attacks, David Coleman Headley, also a Pakistani american.
Rana’s case has been in the spotlight for quite some time now. There has been no news twitching the pulse of India- in relation to his plea: “I would like to reiterate that there has been no declaration made by the supreme court,” pavs the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, spokespeople Randhir Jaishwal.
“Were planning strategic disclosure on the matter in due course,” is what was offered in place of answers during regular briefing welcomed from the podium.
A coordinated assault on a railway station, two luxury hotels, and a Jewish center was executed by a group of 10 Pakistani terrorists on the 26th of November, 2008. The terrorists infiltrated India’s financial capital via a sea route in the Arabian Sea.
During the attack, which was extended over 60 hours, around 166 people were killed. The attack sent a shockwave throughout India and even brought the country to the brink of war with Pakistan.
The last surviving gunman of the Pakistani group, Ajmal Amir Kasab, was executed in 2012, at the Yerawada Jail in Pune.
During a press conference with Prime Minister Modi held in the White House, Donald Trump proudly announced the extradition of Ajmal Amir Kasab, labeled by Trump as a “very evil” man, stating that he has approved sending the man “to face justice” in India.
Rana sought a “stay of his extradition and surrender to India pending litigation (including exhaustion of all appeals) on the merits of his February 13 petition” in his emergency application. In said petition, he contended that “his extradition to India violates United States law and the United Nations Convention Against Torture because there are substantial grounds for believing that, if extradited to India, the petitioner will be in danger of being subjected to torture.”
