20 years imprisonment for convicts in minor gang rape case

Ghazipur: Special Judge POCSO I Rakesh Kumar’s court on Wednesday sentenced the convicts to 20 years each in the gang-rape case involving a minor. Along with this, each was fined Rs 45,000 each. The court ordered 75 percent of the fine to be given as compensation to the victim.

A youth living in Birno village of the district police station filed a complaint. In which he stated that on August 7, 2018, Upendra Rajbhar and Mewa Lal Rajbhar of the village lured his minor daughter and took her somewhere. When he met his girlfriend two days later, he told them about their misdeeds. The victim’s father filed a case against both of them in the police station accusing the daughter of gang-rape. The police took action and sent the accused to jail. After the medical examination of the minor victim, the police presented a charge sheet against the accused in the court. During the hearing, Special Public Prosecutor Prabhunarayan Singh produced a total of seven witnesses on behalf of the prosecution. All recorded their statements in court. On Wednesday, after hearing arguments from both sides, the court ruled in favor of the victim and sentenced the accused.
