Congress Member of Parliament Renuka Chowdhury has launched a scathing verbal attack against the Bharatiya Janata Party regarding their contribution to the Indian freedom struggle. Her comments came amidst a heated political atmosphere where she questioned the historical credentials of the ruling party The senior leader demanded to know the whereabouts of the BJP ideological predecessors during the independence movement while Congress leaders were being incarcerated.

Chowdhury specifically targeted the BJP stance on nationalism and their usage of Vande Mataram She alleged that while figures like Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru were writing the history of the nation while sitting in prison cells others were busy hiding in their holes to save themselves She went further to claim that certain elements maintained contact with the British colonial rulers for self preservation rather than fighting for the country. The Congress MP expressed that history has witnessed the sacrifices of leaders like Nehru and contrasted it with the actions of the current ruling establishment.

The controversy appears to be a counterattack following recent questions raised by the BJP regarding the credentials of Congress leaders. Chowdhury dismissed the criticism from the opposition by stating that those who cannot prove their own historical contribution have no right to point fingers at others. She mocked the ruling party members for suddenly championing slogans which she claimed they had avoided for decades. She asserted that the Congress party legacy is built on solid foundations that everyone is aware of calling the opposing narratives deceitful.

These remarks have intensified the ongoing war of words between the two major parties. By dragging the historical narrative of the freedom movement back into the spotlight Chowdhury has opened another front in the ideological battle. Her comments explicitly challenged the BJP to show if any of their ideological ancestors went to jail for the nation suggesting that their newfound aggression in parliament cannot mask their past absence during the crucial struggle for independence.
