Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar's wife Sudesh was admitted to the AIIMS emergency centre on Thursday after she suffered a back injury after falling in the kitchen, officials said.

Dhankhar was also in the vehicle with Sudesh (70), they said. "She fell in the kitchen and injured her back. Doctors are examining her," an official said. Dhankhar has been living at a farmhouse in Chhatarpur since leaving office in July.

Jagdeep Dhankhar has been in the news for the past several months. On July 21st, Dhankhar resigned as Vice President, reportedly citing ill health, sparking controversy. Sources later linked this to the impeachment motion brought in Parliament against Allahabad High Court Judge Yashwant Verma, who was embroiled in a cash scandal. However, the letter Dhankhar sent officially stated his ill health.

The opposition made a major issue of Dhankhar's resignation, urging the central government to grant him a farewell. They also questioned his prolonged silence. Subsequently, NDA candidate C.P. Radhakrishnan won the vice-presidential election in September, and Dhankhar himself met with him later.
