As Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has become a major form of digital payment in India, applications such as Google Pay, Paytm and BharatPe are the most widely used. Now, Zomato is also all set to join the race with its Zomato UPI.
Food delivery and grocery company Zomato has launched its UPI service in partnership with ICICI Bank. Customers using Zomato can now sign in to the application and create their own UPI ID, after which they will be able to make payments through the app itself.
This means that while ordering food on Zomato, you will not be redirected to any other UPI application like Google Pay, Paytm, or PhonePe. Now you can pay your food bill directly from your Zomato UPI account.
The move has been brought forward to reduce the dependency on third-party payment applications as well as reduce the number of cash-on-delivery (COD) orders. Another reason why Paytm and Google Pay are disrupting business is that for creating Zomato UPI account, you will not be asked to do KYC.
How to use, Activate Zomato UPI Services
As of now, the Zomato UPI service is in its pilot program and is available only to select users. It is likely that this service will be available to all Zomato users in the next few months. It is currently partnering with ICICI and is all set to tie up with more banks soon.
You can click on the profile section of your Zomato account, and scroll down until you see the Zomato UPI option. You need to click on Activate Zomato UPI and then set your Zomato UPI ID. You will then be asked to select your mobile number and link your bank account to pay through the Zomato app.
