‘Small countries are bearing the brunt of Russia-Ukraine war’

Marape said the Pacific island nation is bearing the brunt of the Russia-Ukraine war as it drives up the cost of fuel and electricity tariffs. In the context of geopolitics and power struggles, smaller nations bear the consequences of conflicts between larger nations. War affects our issues. He said that we are importing inflation for our small economy. He pointed to inflationary pressures on his country due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

 

 

 

‘PM Modi should be the voice of small island nations’

PM James Marape further said that he has requested PM Modi to be an active voice for the small island nations in global fora like G20 and G7. Marape called upon India to become a strong voice and advocate for challenges in the region at the Third Indo-Pacific Island Cooperation (FIPIC) Summit. I speak for my younger brother and sister countries in the Pacific. Our land may be small and our numbers few but our territory and position in the Pacific is large. The world uses it for trade, commerce and transportation.
