Protest of wrestlers: Delhi Police has registered a case against wrestlers protesting against Wrestling Federation of India President Brijbhushan Sharan Singh. The wrestlers who have been booked include famous wrestlers like Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia. The action came hours after police detained protesting wrestlers who were marching towards Parliament House on Sunday (May 28).

Delhi Police said a case has been registered against wrestlers Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat and other organizers. Some wrestlers came to Jantar-Mantar late at night but were not allowed and were sent back.

A new history is being written – Vinesh

Responding to the FIR, Vinesh Phogat said that a new history is being written. Phogat wrote on his Twitter page, ‘Delhi Police took 7 days to register an FIR against Brij Bhushan who sexually assaulted us and not even 7 hours to register an FIR against us for protesting peacefully. Has dictatorship started in this country? The whole world is watching how the government is treating its players. A new history is being written.

Bajrang Punia questioned the detention

The protesting wrestlers announced Mahila Samman Mahapanchayat in front of Parliament House on Sunday (May 28). The police did not allow this. Despite this, the wrestlers staged a ‘peaceful march’ towards Parliament, after which the police took them into custody. Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat were released a few hours later while Punia was released late at night. Punia has questioned her police custody. Punia wrote on Twitter, I am still in police custody. Not saying anything. Have I committed a crime? Brijbhushan should have been in jail. Why are we imprisoned?

Dharna ends at Jantar-Mantar

Apart from taking action against the wrestlers, the police have removed all the belongings from the dharna site at Jantar-Mantar and cleaned the place. This means that now the players will not be able to picket.
