The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will host the ICC Champions Trophy tournament in 2025 from 19 February to 9 March. Preparations are going on at a rapid pace for this, although the schedule of this important event has not been officially announced yet. The biggest reason for this is that there is no decision on whether the Indian team will go to Pakistan to play the matches of this tournament or not. However, now the BCCI has clarified the entire situation with its reply to the ICC in this matter, in which they have also mentioned the guidelines received from the government.
Team India will not go to Pakistan to play its matches.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has informed the ICC as per ESPN Cricinfo that they have received advice from the Indian government not to send the team to play matches in Pakistan. In such a situation, now the ICC has the option of organizing this tournament on a hybrid model in the same way as the Asia Cup matches were played in the year 2023, in which the Indian team played its matches in Sri Lanka. However, PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi, in his statement given a few days ago, completely ruled out the possibility of organizing the ICC Champions Trophy on a hybrid model.
Indian teams can play matches in UAE or Sri Lanka.
After Team India’s decision not to go to Pakistan, the only option left now is to organize the matches of the ICC Champions Trophy on a hybrid model, in which the Indian team can play its matches in UAE or Sri Lanka. In this situation, the UAE seems to be a better option because it is closer to both countries. The ICC announces the schedule of its tournament when 100 days are left, but it seems difficult to announce the schedule on November 11, 100 days before this tournament.
