Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday said that she will not contest the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections until Article 370 of the Constitution is restored. However, he said that his party would definitely contest the elections.
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti said, “Special status to Jammu and Kashmir was the best example of federalism, but the abrogation of Article 370 has left the state divided and dysfunctional.”
He further said that ‘China is now interfering in the affairs of Jammu and Kashmir, whereas earlier only Pakistan was doing so. This is the result of abrogation of Article 370 by the BJP.
Let us tell you that in August 2019, the Central Government abolished the special status of Jammu and Kashmir by abolishing the provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution. Also the state of Jammu and Kashmir was divided into two Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
Calling Jammu and Kashmir an open prison in the current situation, the former chief minister said, ‘All our passports have been confiscated. If this can happen to the former chief minister’s family, it can happen to anyone.
The PDP leader also gave his opinion on BJP’s defeat in Karnataka elections. Mehbooba Mufti said, ‘When all had given up, Karnataka has shown a ray of hope to the entire country.’ “Karnataka also faced hatred and communal politics for the last five years, but the state has given democracy a second chance,” he said. He said that the Congress should make more sacrifices, otherwise there are other forces.
“Whatever happened in Delhi is a wake-up call for everyone,” Mehbooba Mufti said of the rights between Delhi and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government at the Centre. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) does not want any opposition. The Delhi government has become powerless. It’s going to happen to everyone.
PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti said Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Joko Yatra’ laid the foundation for Congress’ victory in Karnataka. Led by the former Congress president, the yatra started from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu on September 7 and ended in Srinagar on January 30. The journey passed through 12 states and two Union Territories. A total distance of 3,970 km was covered during this time.
