Why is milk white?

This is a big question for those who drink milk daily. Actually, the color of milk is white because of the white colored casein present in it. Casein is one of the main proteins present in milk. Casein combines with calcium and phosphate in milk to form tiny particles called micelles. When light falls on this micelle, it is refracted and scattered, making milk appear white. Apart from this, the fat present in milk is also the reason for its whiteness.

 

Why is cow’s milk light yellow?

If you have ever noticed, then you would know that cow’s milk appears slightly yellow in comparison to buffalo’s. The reason for this is the dilution of cow’s milk. Actually, cow milk is lighter than buffalo milk and has less fat content. Also, the amount of casein in it is low, due to which cow’s milk appears pale yellow. Let us tell you that milk contains proteins, fats, lactose, carbohydrates, calcium as well as vitamins, phosphorus and many other bioactive elements.
