Disease-X: While the end of the dangerous epidemic Kovid-19, which has killed millions of people, is being seen on one side, the World Health Organization has warned of an even more deadly virus, Disease-X. Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, President of the World Health Organization (WHO), recently warned of a pandemic at the World Health Assembly meeting in Geneva. In this meeting, he had warned that another epidemic could come anytime. Which can spread terrible diseases and even kill a large number of people.
He said that we should be ready to face it collectively. WHO has identified several infectious diseases that could cause the next pandemic. These diseases include Ebola virus, Marburg, Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, COVID-19, Zika and perhaps most dangerously, Disease X.
A Disease or Just a Word?
It is not a disease but a word. This is the worst disease that can happen. The term is used by the WHO as a placeholder to describe human infectious diseases currently unknown to medical science. Disease X may be a disease that may turn into a terrible pandemic in the future and scientists have no idea about it.
Why was it named ‘Disease X’?
Corona virus was also earlier Disease X. WHO used Disease X for the first time in 2018. After that Corona-19 replaced ‘Disease X’. The same will happen the next time an epidemic is reported. Then the existing ‘Disease X’ will be replaced with a new name for that disease.
Why are scientists worried?
The WHO President has already said that Disease X will emerge as a deadly disease in the near future. That’s why people need to be cautious about their health from now on. There is also a concern that when the corona virus came, there was no medicine or vaccine available for its treatment in India. Similarly, no medicine or experiment is being used for Disease X at present.
Nature of virus, disease X will come from wild or domesticated animals
Experts believe that the next Disease X will be zoonotic. That is, it will be prepared from wild or domestic animals. Ebola, HIV/AIDS and COVID-19 were zoonotic outbreaks. However, no accurate predictions can be made about disease X at present. Regarding Disease X, some experts believe that the next pandemic may be caused by a virus or bacteria. It is also believed that an accident in a laboratory or a biological attack could lead to disease X.
what about disease X
People need not panic about Disease X. Medical experts around the world are taking all possible measures, research and monitoring to prevent and combat the outbreak. Overall, experts are of the view that the COVID-19 pandemic is neither the first nor the last disease to wreak havoc on the world. The world needs to prepare for the next outbreak. It is imperative for scientists, researchers and policy makers to be vigilant and monitor and study possible future threats.
