West Bengal: 9 people died in storm and rain, some electric wires and some trees were killed

Kolkata: Cyclone Mocha in the Bay of Bengal lashed the coastal districts of West Bengal with thunderstorms and rains, killing nine people. While information has been received that many people have been injured. In view of this, there is also a fear that the number of dead will increase. During storms and rains, most people died due to electrocution or falling tree branches.

Cyclone Mocha had a widespread impact on the coastal areas of the state. On Tuesday morning, sources in the State Disaster Management Department confirmed that one of the dead, Khushbu Yadav (12 years), was returning from PK Roy Lane, Shivpur, Howrah late on Monday evening. Tuition, at the same time the cyclone hit. He died after coming in contact with a fallen electric wire.

One person was killed in Kaushik Dhali park in Barrackpore of Ranaghat in Nadia district. Due to strong wind, the tree branch fell on the head of the man who was standing under the tree, due to which he died. Meanwhile, Saraswati Vishwas (40 years) died after being buried under a coconut tree in Barrackpore Mohanpur.

On the other hand, Rajni Pandey (42 years) died in Bagnan, Howrah. During the storm he took shelter under a tree. An old man named Ramachandra Mandal died in Bagnan. Apart from this, many people have been injured in Howrah district due to the storm.

Prasun Ghoshal (19 years), a resident of Shyampur, died after coming in contact with an electric wire during a heavy storm. While Ashraf Khan (50 years) died after an electric pole fell during a storm at Pashkura in Hooghly district. Apart from this Sukant Mahato (63 years) died in Belpahari. An old woman named Malti Murmu lost her life due to the storm in Belpahari itself. Both died after being crushed by a tree branch.

Rail and flight services were disrupted

Meanwhile, train services were disrupted in several districts of South Bengal, including Kolkata, due to the monsoon. Flight services at Dumdum International Airport were also disrupted for a while.

Death toll expected to rise

According to Met department sources, Cyclone Kalbaisakhi started moving at 5:41 pm on Monday with a maximum speed of 84 kmph. The storm lasted for a total of three minutes. The wind speed of 62 km per hour was blowing in Dum Dum area till 6 pm. This storm lasted for a minute. In the meantime, these people have died. Sources in the state’s disaster management department said the death toll could rise.
