Telecom giant Vodafone is going through tough times, so it plans to cut 11,000 employees globally over the next three years. On the other hand, 500 employees have been laid off from e-commerce company Amazon India. Vodafone CEO Margarita Della Vella said layoffs will be made to fix the telecoms group.
Margarita said the company’s bottom line has been taken care of. Economic experts predict little or no earnings growth for the company in the current financial year. On the other hand, Germany is Vodafone’s biggest market and the company is performing poorly there as well. Margarita said we are doing business because we don’t see any development. We will try to simplify grouping in future to provide better convenience to customers. Let us tell you that earlier this year Vodafone laid off 1000 employees in Italy while 1300 employees are likely to be laid off in Germany.
On the other hand, Amazon India has laid off around 500 employees from its cloud division AWS as well as people experience and technology solutions (HR) and support verticals. The layoffs in India are part of the 9,000 layoffs announced by Amazon CEO Andy Jesse in March, the sources said. Earlier in January, the e-commerce company had laid off 18,000 employees.
