Violence again in Manipur, desperation, essential commodities become expensive

[ad_1]

Fear of violence has once again spread in Manipur. Three houses were set on fire by some people of one community in Faubakchao of Bishnupur district of the state on Tuesday night, in response to which people of another community set fire to four other houses in the area. According to local sources, one person was killed in the violence, while two others were seriously injured. Curfew has been re-imposed in sensitive areas in view of fresh incidents of violence. Prices of essential commodities in the state are skyrocketing. Rice, potatoes, onions and eggs as well as cooking gas cylinders and petrol are being sold at much higher prices than the government fixed prices. The price of 50 kg of rice, which was earlier Rs 900, has now increased to Rs 1800. An LPG cylinder is being sold in the black market for Rs 1,800, while in many parts of the state, people have to pay Rs 170 for a liter of petrol.

The rioters blocked the road at many places

As violence broke out in the Imphal Valley region, the movement of trucks came to a standstill as rioters blocked the road. As a result the income of essential commodities has decreased. However, there are signs of relief now that security forces have started guarding trucks on the highway since May 15. The price of meat in the state has not gone up just because it does not come from other states and is available locally.
