Nagaur, May 14 (Hindustan Times). Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar expressed deep concern over the growing drug addiction among rural farming youth and the tendency to break the law for easy short-term gains, warning that playing by the law would not only cost them dearly but also bring disrepute to the rural farming community. He said that no one is above the law, sooner or later the noose of the law will surely tighten.
The Vice President was speaking at the unveiling of a statue of Late Nathuram Mirdha in Merta City, Nagaur on Sunday. He said that the fight for reservation was difficult for the farming community, in which he himself contributed, but today it is seeing positive results.
He said that benefit of agriculture, rural development and government schemes is the right of farmers. Dhankhar urged the farmer youth to follow the path of agriculture and rural development.
Noting that some sections are opposed to scrapping old tractors, the Vice President said that farmers have always been proactive in adopting changes. We need to move on from what is happening in the world today.
Referring to the importance of agriculture in India’s economic development, the Vice President said that India’s economic progress is heard in the world only because of the sweat of farmers.
The Vice President and his wife Dr. Sudesh Dhankhar reached Jaipur this morning on a one-day visit to Rajasthan. From there the Vice President proceeded to Pushkar where he visited the historic Brahma Temple, Srijat Shiva Temple and visited the rest house built on the initiative of late Nathuram Mirdha. After this, the Vice President visited the Veervar Teja Ji temple in Karnal. In the evening, the Vice President unveiled an octagonal statue of Nathuram Mirdha at Merta City.
Dhankhar said that he never imagined that a common man like me would get a chance to unveil a statue of a noble personality like Baba Nathuram Mirdha. He said that Nathuramji always talked about the welfare of the farmers and the farmers also had full faith in him. Recalling the contribution of Nathuram Mirdha as Chairman of the Agriculture Commission, the Vice President said that he worked to realize the dreams of Sir Chhoturam, Kisan Kesari Baldev Mirdha and Chaudhary Charan Singh. The occasion was likened to the swearing-in ceremony of the Vice President. The Vice President said that he would make every effort to make Nathuram Mirdha’s dreams come true.
Many public representatives, senior officials and a large number of farmers were present on the occasion, including Agriculture Minister Lalchand Kataria, former state MLA Richpal Mirdha and former Nagaur MP Jyoti Mirdha.
