Varanasi volleyball player Shreyansh Singh is trying to fulfill the unfulfilled dreams of his farmer father

Varanasi : Shreyansh Singh, a volleyball player from Varanasi who has played in the Junior Asian Championship for India, is trying to fulfill the unfulfilled dreams of his farmer father. Shreyansh’s father Prem Shankar Singh was also a volleyball player and used to dream of playing for the country but he could not do so due to pressure of responsibilities and lack of opportunities.

Shreyansh, a resident of Kohasi village in Varanasi, is the youngest of three siblings. The sisters are married and the entire responsibility of the family is on the farmer father. Shreyansh’s father, who played for Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth, used to play volleyball as an amateur. Dil had a dream to play for the country but it could not be fulfilled.

Shreyans, who used to watch his father play, fell in love with volleyball from the village itself and then went ahead. Today Shreyansh also dreams of playing for the country and is moving towards that very fast.

Shreyans said, – Papa used to play in the village. I used to go to watch their matches. I liked this game. From there, my interest in this game arose. Papa could not play further but now I want to fulfill his dreams.-

23-year-old Shreyansh, who is going to participate for the second time in the Khelo India University Games-2022, being organized for the first time in Uttar Pradesh, told that he had touched volleyball for the first time in 2011.

Shreyansh said, “After getting into this sport in 2011, I moved to Guru Gobind Singh Sports College, Lucknow. Till the year 2018, I was in sports college only. Meanwhile, I played Junior Nationals in 2016. Sai selected me from Lucknow and then I went to Sai Center Rae Bareilly in 2019. I left there in the year 2021. Earlier, in the year 2018, I represented the country in the Junior Asian Championship, which was held in Bahrain in July. There our team reached the quarter-finals and my performance was the best among Indian players.

Talking about the Khelo India University Games, Shreyansh, who has played in the All India University Games four times, said, “It gives boys an opportunity to showcase their talent. In the Khelo India University Games, the players get the best facilities and that is why they think of playing further. Due to events like Khelo India Youth Games and Khelo India University Games, players from villages and towns are also coming forward and choosing sports as their career. Due to this decision of the Government of India, grassroot level talents are getting benefited.–

The third edition of Khelo India University Games is being organized from May 23 to June 3 in four cities of Uttar Pradesh – Lucknow, Gautam Budh Nagar, Gorakhpur and Varanasi. KIUG Uttar Pradesh 2022 will see participation of around 4,000 athletes from various institutions across the country. In the Under-27 category, athletes across 21 sports will compete for medals. Shooting events will be held in Delhi and the Games will be officially inaugurated on May 25.
