Gopeshwar: The portals of Sikh holy sites Hemkund Sahib and Lokpal Laxman Mandir were opened to general devotees on Saturday with Guru Ardas, Shabad Kirtan and Guru Vani. Hemkund still has seven to eight feet of snow.
On Saturday, the Guru Granth Sahib was brought from the Sachkhand Sahib sanctum sanctorum to the Darbar Sahib amid the tunes of a military band led by Panch Pyare. The significant thing is that after reaching Hemkund, one first takes a bath in the lake. After that, the Holy Granth Sahib is offered in the Gurudwara and prayers are offered to the Guru. The pilgrimage to Hemkund Sahib starts in May-June and continues till October. All the passengers coming for this tour can do their registration both online and offline. This will be mandatory for all.
Devotees above 60 years of age and children are not allowed to travel this time due to heavy snowfall on the Yatra route. Only two and a half thousand passengers will be allowed to go to Hemkund in a day. Adequate security arrangements have been made by the district police for all the devotees coming to Sri Hemkund Sahib. Along with this, SDRF has been deployed at Bhundar and Ghagharia, major stops on the Hemkund Sahib route.
