US insists on freedom of expression in Pakistan not linked to violence

Washington, May 16 (Hindustan). Amidst the ongoing internal strife in Pakistan, the US has insisted on ensuring freedom of expression without being associated with any kind of violence. America has clearly said that for good relations between America and Pakistan, it is necessary for Pakistan to be strong, stable and prosperous.

The entire world is watching the arrest of former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan and the furore that followed. Speaking to reporters on this issue, US State Department Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel said that people should have the freedom to express themselves without participating in violence. Presenting the side on the developments in Pakistan, said that America has nothing to do with any one political party or one candidate. The US emphasis on a strong, stable and prosperous Pakistan is critical to US-Pakistan relations.

He said that any arrest should be made to comply with the basic human rights of such a person as per their laws. On press freedom in Pakistan, Patel said that it is not right to make any assumptions about the current situation. America’s policy is that everyone should have access to media and information. There should be continuous exchange of information between the government and the journalists.
