UP civic vote counting: BJP’s Ashok Tiwari ahead in second round

Varanasi : Counting of votes has started at Pahadia Mandi, the counting place for the urban body elections, amid tight security on Saturday. BJP’s mayoral candidate Ashok Tiwari is leading in the trends of the first round of counting. On the second number is Dr. OP Singh of Samajwadi Party (SP). A total of 11 candidates are in the fray for the post of mayor.

The BJP candidate took the lead from the beginning of the counting. After counting of first round votes, Ashok Tiwari got 12 thousand 493, SP’s Dr. OP Singh 6896, Congress’s Anil Srivastava 4155, BSP’s Subhash Chand Manjhi 1010, Subhaspa’s Anand Tiwari 372, Nirdal Omprakash 128 Aam Aadmi Party’s Sharda Tandon got 282 votes, Nirdal Deepak Lal got 101, Virendra Gupta got 175, Shamsher Khan got 84, Harish Mishra got 186 and NOTA got 197 votes. In the second round, BJP’s Ashok Tiwari got 25342, SP 13273, Congress 7606, BSP 2861, Subhaspa 897, Nirdal Omprakash 216, Aam Aadmi Party’s Sharda Tandon 618, Nirdal Deepak Lal 190, Virendra Gupta 387 Shamsher Khan got 142, Harish Mishra got 344 and NOTA got 396 votes.

Tight security arrangements have been made around the counting venue and at all vulnerable places in the district. Police is stationed everywhere at the counting site. The administration has made elaborate arrangements for the counting of votes to be completed peacefully.
