Unemployment rate in India: The unemployment rate of people aged 15 years and above in urban areas remained stable at 6.6 percent in the April-June quarter of the current financial year 2024-25. The National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) gave this information in its data. The percentage of unemployed people in the labor force is called the unemployment rate. The unemployment rate was only 6.6 percent in the June quarter of the financial year 2023-24. According to an official statement, the 23rd Periodic Labor Force Survey (PLFS) shows that the unemployment rate in urban areas was 6.7 percent in the January-March quarter of 2023-24.
Unemployment rate among men and women
According to the survey, the unemployment rate among women (aged 15 years and above) in urban areas stood at nine percent in April-June, 2024, as against 9.1 percent in the same quarter a year ago. This rate was 8.5 percent in January-March, 2024. The unemployment rate among men in urban areas declined to 5.8 percent in April-June, as against 5.9 percent in the same quarter a year ago. This figure was 6.1 percent in January-March, 2023.
Labor force participation rate in the CWS
On the other hand, the labor force participation rate in the current weekly status (CWS) in urban areas for people aged 15 years and above increased to 50.1 percent in April-June from 48.8 percent in the same quarter a year ago. At the all-India level, a total of 5,735 FSUs (urban sampling units derived from urban frame survey) were surveyed during April-June, 2024 in urban areas.
