Kyiv: Ukraine has carried out a major drone attack on a Russian arms depot after Donald Trump was elected president of the US. A source in Ukraine’s SBU security service told Reuters on Saturday that Ukrainian drones attacked a munitions factory in central Russia overnight. The attack was carried out on the Aleksinsky chemical plant, which produces gunpowder, ammunition, and weapons, in the Tula region, about 200 km (120 miles) south of Moscow, the source said. The attack was part of a strategy to target factories supporting Moscow’s war against Ukraine.

The attacks on Russia’s military-industrial complex, its “weapons depots, military airfields, and enterprises reduce Russia’s ability to terrorize Ukraine,” the SBU source said. The source did not give an estimate of the damage to the Aleksinsky factory. Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces shot down 50 Ukrainian drones in seven Russian regions overnight, Russian state news agency TASS reported. As the war against Russia approaches its 1,000th day, Ukraine is on the back foot on the battlefield against its bigger and better-armed enemy.

Ukrainian villages are also being destroyed by Russian attacks.

Meanwhile, Russian attacks are also causing heavy destruction in Ukrainian villages. Russian troops are continuously advancing in the eastern Donetsk region. They are breaking Ukrainian defense lines and wiping out cities and villages there with guided aerial bombs and artillery. The Ukrainian General Staff said on Saturday that the situation on the front line was complicated, with more than 170 combat clashes reported in the past 24 hours, most of them in the east. Ukrainian officials say attacks on military facilities, warehouses, and airfields in Russia will disrupt the logistics and supply of Moscow troops. It will also help turn the war in Ukraine’s favor. According to Ukrainian security officials, since September, Ukraine has attacked several ammunition depots in Russia with Ukrainian-made long-range drones.
