Kiev: At least 12 people, including a three-year-old girl, were injured when a Russian glide bomb hit a five-story building in Ukraine’s second-largest city, Kharkiv, local authorities said on Thursday. Kharkiv regional governor Oleh Sinyhubov said the bomb fell on the fourth floor of the building on Wednesday night, causing a fire. Firefighters began searching for survivors amid smoke and rubble. The city of Kharkiv, located about 30 kilometers from the Russian border, has been the target of frequent air strikes during the war against Russia that has now entered its third year.
Ukraine has no solution.
Glide bombs have become a common weapon in the war. Glide bombs have terrorized civilians and devastated the Ukrainian army’s front-line defenses. The weapons were key in Russia’s capture of the strategic town of Vuhlar on Wednesday, as Russian forces ravaged the eastern Donetsk region and forced exhausted Ukrainian troops to withdraw from destroyed towns and villages. Ukraine has no effective defense measures against glide bombs, which are fired by Russian aircraft from inside Russia.
Attacks continue from both sides
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the latest attack in Kharkiv highlighted the urgent need for increased support from Ukraine’s Western allies. Zelensky has recently held talks with US officials in an effort to secure more Western military support. Ukraine is struggling with troop problems on the front lines and is struggling to fend off Russia’s relentless attacks. The two sides have continued to carry out regular cross-border air strikes, usually at night. Ukraine’s air force said on Thursday that 78 of the 105 Shahid drones fired by Russia at night were destroyed. 15 regions of the country came under attack. Meanwhile, Russian forces shot down 113 Ukrainian drones in the air overnight, according to a statement from the Moscow-based Defense Ministry.
