UK Visa: Great news for Indian students going to UK on study visa

Foreign Postgraduate Students: Students going to the United Kingdom for studies have come as a huge blow with the new immigration restriction rules put in place by the UK government. Due to which students will not be able to take their family members to UK. The announcement was made two days before the figures were released. Hence an Indian student going to UK to study may feel overwhelmed.

According to statistics, the record of legal migration has reached 7 lakhs. The UK granted 1,35,788 visas to relatives of foreign students last year alone, which is nine times more than in 2019.

Changes in the UK government’s rules regarding migrant students may shatter the dream of many Indians to go to Britain. Actually, many Indian students go to UK to study, after which their relatives also get UK visa easily. But due to the new rules, he will not be able to do so. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has said that this decision will reduce migration to Britain.

Rishi Sunak told the cabinet that this change would be implemented from January 2024. Due to which there will be a big change in the number of migrants. However, it is not yet clear what effect this rule will have on official migration. Because, students and their families who have come recently for less than a year are not counted. Sunak also said last week that his ministers were trying to reduce migration. However, in the meantime, he declined to discuss what would be an acceptable level.

The announcement added that parents of postgraduate students and students pursuing research programs would not be granted visas to stay in the UK for the duration of the course. Last year, the UK granted 1,35,788 visas to dependents of students. This number is 54,486 more than in 2021. This is seven times as compared to 2020. Following Brexit, the number of students in the UK has increased following the creation of the European Economic Area (EEA).
