The journey of Tulsi Gowda
Tulsi Gowda was born in a family of Halakki tribe of Karnataka. Her father died in her childhood and she started working with her mother and sisters from a young age. Due to this, she could not go to school, nor could she learn to read and write. She got married at the age of 11, but her husband also did not live long. To overcome the sorrow and loneliness of her life, she started taking care of trees and plants. Her interest in plant conservation grew and she joined the state’s afforestation scheme as a worker. In the year 2006, she got a job as a tree planter in the forest department and after a tenure of 14 years, she retired in 2020. During this time, she planted countless trees and played an important role in biodiversity conservation. Tulsi Gowda had amazing knowledge of trees and plants, due to which she was also called the encyclopedia of the forest. She knew about the benefits of all kinds of plants. How much water to give to which plant, which plants grow in which type of soil, all this was at his fingertips.
