Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will not attend the NITI Aayog meeting to be held in Delhi on Saturday. After this, no one has been allowed by the Center to represent West Bengal.
On 15 May, Mamata Banerjee told a press conference at the State Secretariat in Navan that she would attend the NITI Aayog meeting. After this, it was decided by the state government that state chief secretary Harikrishna Dwivedi and state minister of state for finance Chandrima Bhattacharya would attend the meeting as state representatives. A letter was written to the Center regarding this, but the reply has clearly said that it is good if the Chief Minister attends the meeting, otherwise there is no need for anyone else to attend.
Clarifying the situation on Friday, Chandrima Bhattacharya has said that the Center has clarified in reply to the letter that no one other than the Chief Minister is allowed to attend the meeting. However, we will again raise our demand with the Center regarding the dues of the state through some other means. He said that funds for most projects have been withheld in West Bengal. In such a situation there is no justification for a meeting of the NITI Aayog.
It may be mentioned that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleged that she attends the NITI Aayog meeting from morning but is not allowed to speak before sunset.
