Five days after the declaration of assembly election results in Karnataka on May 13, the exercise of selecting the Chief Minister of Karnataka has been completed. The Congress is now trying to show agility to avoid delays in the formation of the state cabinet by swearing in 28 people along with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar on Saturday. The Chief Minister-designate and Deputy Chief Minister-designate returned to Delhi on Friday to finalize the list of ministers who will take oath on Saturday. All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary KC Venugopal said the CM and Deputy CM will take oath along with a group of ministers.

28 ministers can take oath along with CM and Deputy CM

28 ministers can take oath along with CM and Deputy CM. The party no longer wants to delay government formation. The list is being finalized and will be approved by the High Command. To accommodate the latter, about four cabinet ministerial posts may remain vacant. The Congress on Thursday announced Siddaramaiah’s name as the next Chief Minister of Karnataka and the party’s state president D.K. Sivakumar was given the responsibility of Deputy Chief Minister. Siddaramaiah then met Governor Thawarchand Gehlot and claimed to form the government.

Siddaramaiah is going to become the Chief Minister for the second time.

Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar will take oath today at 12.30 pm. Siddaramaiah is going to become the Chief Minister for the second time. The CLP met on 14 May, a day after the Karnataka election results were declared, during which a one-line resolution was passed authorizing Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge to appoint the new chief minister.

The three central inspectors who came that day also took the opinion of the MLAs, which they shared with Khadge. In the elections to the 224-member state assembly on 10 May, the Congress won a landslide victory, winning 135 seats. While the ruling BJP and Janata Dal (Secular) led by former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda won 66 and 19 seats respectively.

The churning went on for days

Earlier, after several days of marathon meetings and intense brainstorming, the Congress had announced that the crown of power in Karnataka would be Siddaramaiah and state party president D.K. Shivakumar will hold the post of Deputy Chief Minister in the new government. Ending the uncertainty that has been going on for several days, the party’s organizing general secretary K.C. Venugopal made this announcement. He also said that besides being the only deputy chief minister in the new government, Shivakumar will hold the post of state Congress committee president until the next Lok Sabha elections. Terming Siddaramaiah and Sivakumar as big ‘assets’ for the Congress in Karnataka, he said that both of them had contributed significantly to the Congress’ victory in the assembly elections.
