Today will be a unique day in the history of the Supreme Court. Two new judges of the Supreme Court are going to take oath today, while it will be the last day of three judges i.e. they will retire. Because summer vacation is starting from Saturday itself. This morning, Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court Prashant Kumar Mishra and Senior Advocate K.V. Viswanathan, who was appointed as a Supreme Court judge, will take oath as the first judge of the Supreme Court. The oath taking ceremony will be held at 10.30 am. It will also be telecast live.

Supreme Court practice will be followed

According to the convention of the Supreme Court, three Justices K.M. Joseph, Justice Ajay Rastogi and Justice V Ramasubramanian, who will retire in June, will share the bench with CJI DY Chandrachud. However, the trio will not share the bench together. In the first five cases, Justice K.M. Joseph, CJI will be on the bench, followed by Justice Ajay Rastogi and Justice V Ramasubramaniam CJI in the other five cases and Justice PS Narasimha will join the bench in the next five cases.

The month of June is special for the Supreme Court.

June 2023 is a unique month, as three Supreme Court judges are going to retire in June. Justice K.M. Joseph will retire on June 16, Justice Ajay Rastogi on June 17 and Justice V Ramasubramanian on June 29. Earlier on May 14 Justice Dinesh Maheshwari and the next day on May 15 Justice MR Shah retired.

The Law Minister announced the appointment on Twitter

President Draupadi Murmu on Thursday appointed Andhra Pradesh High Court Chief Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra as a judge of the Supreme Court. Along with this, he has also appointed senior advocate Kalapati Venkataraman Viswanathan as a judge of the Supreme Court. The appointments were announced by new Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on Twitter.

It was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium Center

On May 16, the Supreme Court Collegium appointed senior advocate of the Supreme Court K.V. Viswanathan and Andhra Pradesh High Court Chief Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra recommended the Center for promotion as Supreme Court judges. Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice KM Joseph recommended to the Center that the Supreme Court should have 34 judges, but currently there are only 32 judges. After the retirement of some judges, only 28 judges will remain till the second week of July. For this reason, both these judges should be appointed to the Supreme Court first. The central government approved the recommendation of the collegium within 48 hours. Soon after this, President Draupadi Murmu also issued a letter appointing both the judges.
