Nirjala Ekadashi 2023: The date of Ekadashi is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. There are 24 Ekadashis in a year. Worshiping Lord Vishnu and fasting on Ekadashi gives many benefits. The Ekadashi that falls throughout the year is special. Like Nirjala Ekadashi. Consumption of water is also prohibited in Nirjala Ekadashi. That’s why it is called Nirjala Ekadashi. Nirjala Ekadashi fast is broken after sunrise on Barsaas Tithi. By fasting on Nirjala Ekadashi, both Lord Vishnu and Mother Lakshmi are pleased and bestow blessings of happiness, prosperity and wealth in life.

This year Nirjala Ekadashi will be celebrated on 31st May. On this day wake up early in the morning and take a bath and wear clean clothes. It is considered best to wear yellow colored clothes on this day. Then remember Shri Hari and take a vow of fasting. If you want to fast on Ekadashi, do not eat tamasic food from the tenth day itself and follow celibacy. Worship Lord Vishnu in an auspicious time on Ekadashi. For this, place the idol or photo of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi on a plate with a yellow cloth. Then offer yellow flowers, yellow rice, yellow fruits and yellow sweets to God. Read the story of Ekadashi and chant the mantra ‘Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya’.
Do not do this work on the day of Nirjala Ekadashi
– Do not sleep late in the morning on the day of Nirjala Ekadashi, wake up before sunrise and take a bath on this day.
– Do not wear black colored clothes on the day of Nirjala Ekadashi. Even those who are not fasting should not wear black clothes on this day.
– Do not consume onion, garlic, rice, alcohol etc. on the day of Nirjala Ekadashi.
