New Delhi: The Supreme Court has adjourned the hearing on the appointment of the Chairman of the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC). A bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud ordered the next hearing of the matter on May 19.

Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for the Lt Governor’s office, said that the reply to the petition is almost ready and will be filed soon. Time should be given for this. On this, advocate Abhishek Manu Sindvi, appearing for the Delhi government, said that the LG’s office is deliberately delaying the matter. After which the Supreme Court ordered the next hearing in this matter on May 19.

On April 21, the court issued a notice to the office of the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi. During the hearing, the Delhi government said it had sent a proposal to appoint former Delhi High Court judge Rajeev Kumar Srivastava to the post four months ago, but the lieutenant governor has not yet issued the appointment order. The petition states that this causes problems in administrative work. Due to which the administration is unable to perform many important functions.
