New Delhi: The Supreme Court has refused to stay the Delhi High Court’s order to remove unauthorized structures in Delhi’s Vishwas Nagar. A vacation bench headed by Justice Anirudh Bose directed the DDA to give a week’s time and if the unauthorized structures are not removed within this period, the DDA can take action to remove those structures.

The High Court has directed the DDA to file a reply by July on what arrangements have been made for the rehabilitation of the residents after the removal of the structures. Removal of unauthorized constructions in Vishwas Nagar was to begin from Monday morning.

The lawyer appearing for the petitioners told the High Court that the houses are being removed in such heat. A mountain of troubles will fall on the people living in these houses. In these circumstances, the order to demolish the unauthorized construction should be stayed.

During the hearing, the counsel appearing for the DDA said that the single and division bench of the High Court said that these constructions were unauthorized, so they should be removed. The high court said that the occupants of these structures have not filed any document, which shows that the occupants have any ownership rights.
