The Supreme Court today heard a plea filed by the producers against the ban imposed on ‘The Kerala Story’ in West Bengal. Meanwhile, the CJI said, “We are lifting the ban imposed on the film by the West Bengal government on May 8. There is no solid basis for this ban.” Along with this, the court has also directed the Tamil Nadu government to ensure all security arrangements for the screening of the film and to ensure the safety of the moviegoers.

The Bengal government had justified this ban

Earlier, during the hearing of the case, the West Bengal government had justified its decision to ban the film ‘The Kerala Story’. In an affidavit filed in the Supreme Court, the West Bengal government had said that the film ‘The Kerala Story’ is based on fake facts and contains hate speech, which may hurt communal sentiments. The film may create hatred between communities, which may worsen the law and order situation in the state. In the affidavit, the West Bengal government cited intelligence as the basis behind the ban. However, the Supreme Court today lifted the ban on the film.

‘The Kerala Story’ was the second biggest hit of the year

Let us tell you that ‘The Kerala Story’ is getting a lot of love from the audience right from the first day of its release and this film is performing brilliantly at the box office. ‘The Kerala Story’ has also surpassed the lifetime collection of Ranbir Kapoor starrer ‘Tu Jhooti Main Makka’ at Rs 149.05 crore. After 13 days of release, the total earnings of the film have reached Rs 165.94 crore. It is expected to join the 200 crore club soon. ‘The Kerala Story’ is directed by Sudipto Sen and stars Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani and Sonia Balani in lead roles.
