Funeral Rituals: Sixteen rites have been described in Hinduism. One of the important rites is the funeral. According to Hindu religion, many rituals are also followed during the last rites. During the last rites, the family of the deceased does some such work by which the soul of the deceased gets salvation.
One such important funeral ritual is the Vidhi Kapal Kriya. During the Kapal Kriya, the head of the deceased is beaten with a stick. You may be surprised to hear this but it is a fact. It is also mentioned in Garuda Purana. The Garuda Purana mentions the rituals to be performed in connection with the last rites of a human being. The last rites are performed through this ritual. The memories of this life will not be with you in the next life
Kapal Kriya is performed so that the dying person attains salvation. That’s why his head is broken. Also, the memory of this birth of the person who dies does not remain with him in the next birth.
Mechanism is not used for action
There is also a belief that if the whole skull survives after cremation, it can be used in tantra mantras. So during cremation the skull is broken so that it cannot be used further.
